Puppy Training Classes

A "must" for new puppy owners!

The course is designed for puppies under 6 months. It is the first step to the development of a happy, stable, well-socialized dog that will mind and be a joy to own! Along with commands and behavior work, this class also offers socialization with other puppies and people to teach proper social skills to young dogs.

Conformation Class

Conformation handling classes are for people who participate in dog shows. The classes allow dog handlers the chance to practice with their dogs in a controlled show-like setting, learn basic ring patterns, and work with the instructor to improve their ring presence. We will help you teach your dog that being a show dog can be fun.

Topics will include how dog shows work, ring procedure, how to gait your dog, free-stacking, loose-lead gaiting, and being handled by the judge on the table or off.

Our instructor is Karen Hamm Stenlund. She has over 30 years experience in and out of the show ring with multiple Best In Show and Best In Specialty show champions to her credit.

Class information:

Classes are at 6:00 pm on Mondays. Classes cost $10.00 per handler. You may bring extra dogs to work with. No pre-registration is required. Drop-ins are welcome. The next class will start Monday, September 14, 2009.

Required:

Proof of Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, and Bordetella vaccinations are required.

Intermediate Class

Intermediate class is for owners & dogs who want to take training to the next level. Dogs should have completed at least one training class, but the instructor can also evaluate a dog to determine if it’s ready for this level of training.

The class will utilize praise & treats to emphasize off-leash and verbal control. Dogs will be expected to respond quicker and more completely.  Most importantly, we will work on your dog’s ability to focus on you so that it will respond better to whatever command you’re giving.

Intermediate class prepares dogs for the CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certification. Upon completion of the class you & your dog have the opportunity to take this test for a cost of $15.

Rates:

The class costs $80, and runs for 1 hour per week for 6 weeks. Typically the class meets at 7:15 pm on Wednesdays. Pre-registration is required.
